SALT ROOM FAQ'S
I'VE HEARD OF "SALT CAVES" BEFORE. IS THAT WHAT YOUR SALT ROOM IS?
Verbena Holistic Center offers a state-of-the-art Salt Room, which differs slightly from a Salt Cave.
A Salt Cave is generally an underground Mine where salt is naturally occurring and abundant in the earth. One of the most famous Salt Caves is the Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland. Many Spas have tried to capitalize on this by creating man-made "Salt Caves" that are created with styrofoam boulders sprayed with Salt, and piles of himalayan salt on the floor. While these creations are beautiful, the Salt "boulders" provide virtually no therapeutic benefits. It is believed that the true, therapeutic benefits of Salt only occur when Salt is present in the air. This is why we've opted to create a Salt Room versus a Cave, complete with our state-of-the-art Halogenerator System. Our Space is adorned with glowing Himalayan Salt Panels for aesthetic value, while the Halogenerator System grinds pharmaceutical-grade salt into micro-sized particles and disperses it into the air - in a process known as dry-salt therapy. The Salt air mimics the air you'd find within a Salt Cave - providing you with true, and lasting benefits. Breathing in the dry salt particles is deeply cleansing, and is said to bring healing to your body from the inside out.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION LAST?
Each Session is 35 Minutes in length. Once a Session has started, we do our best to keep the door to the Space closed in order to maintain the proper levels of Salt in the air. For this reason, we recommend using the bathroom prior to your Session. We also encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes early, as we aim to start each Session right on time, and cannot allow anyone to enter the space once the Session has begun.
WHAT WILL I FEEL DURING THE SESSION?
Hopefully you will feel relaxed! :) Salt Therapy is a very gentle treatment, and it's unlikely you will feel anything remarkable happening during your Session. But rest assured that with each breath you take - the Salt is gently working it's way into your lower respiratory tract, which is said to remove toxins, dispel mucus, reduce inflammation, and provide healing from the inside out. Additionally, the salt will gently settle on your skin - which has been shown to provide relief for eczema, acne, premature aging, etc.

It's also possible you will experience a runny nose or mild cough during a Session - which is a result of the salt beginning to clear your respiratory system.
Remember that Salt Sessions are cumulative in nature, and it will likely take multiple sessions for you to see and experience noticeable results.
WILL THE SALT RUIN MY CLOTHES?
The salt is very gentle and will not do any damage to your clothing. It's possible you will see a very slight residue of salt dust on your clothing after a session - but it can easily be brushed off of your clothes after the session, and will not do any damage.
DO I HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
Yes, pre-registration is required for all Salt Room Sessions. Please give us a call to reserve your spot at 860 426 3787, or request an appointment online here.
CAN MY FRIENDS AND I BOOK THE ROOM TOGETHER?
Absolutely! You may bring up to four guests.
HOW OLD DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO PARTICIPATE?
You must be 16 years or older to visit the Salt Room or to receive a Massage or Spa Service.
CAN MY CHILDREN SIT IN THE LOBBY WHILE I'M IN MY SESSION?
For liability purposes, we cannot have unattended children in the lobby, and all guests at the Spa must be 16 or older. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause!
IS THE SALT ROOM HEATED?
There is a common misconception that the Salt Room is heated, like a steam room or Sauna. However, this is not the case! Verbena offers Dry Salt Therapy - which is a highly effective, and gentle form of Salt Therapy. The Salt is dried before each Session in order to remove moisture and activate it's anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties. Drying the salt allows it to reach the lower respiratory tracts, unlike wet salt therapy - which only reaches the upper respiratory system. Each deep cleansing breath during a dry salt treatment will clear your airways, remove allergens, and decrease inflammation. Adding moisture and humidity to the room (such as in a steam room or sauna) would actually deplete the the therapeutic benefits of the Session. This is why a single Salt Session is so much more effective than spending time at the Ocean - in fact, one Dry Salt Therapy Session at Verbena is equivalent to spending nearly a week at the Beach!
HOW FREQUENTLY SHOULD YOU RECEIVE A SALT SESSION?
It's recommended that you receive Salt Sessions 4-6 times per month in order to maximize it's therapeutic benefits. Salt Therapy is an ongoing treatment, and it is likely to take multiple sessions for results to become noticeable.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS OF SALT THERAPY?
Salt Therapy is a gentle, holistic, and non-invasive treatment with virtually no side effects. However, it's possible that you may experience a runny nose or a mild cough after a Session - which is simply a sign that the Treatment has been effective, and the salt is doing it's work to expel mucus, and clear your respiratory system.

Additionally, Salt Therapy is not recommended in the following cases: tuberculosis, fever, contagious conditions, severe heart disorders, high blood pressure, cancer, advanced pregnancy, or acute state of respiratory attack. If you are unsure as to whether Halotherapy will be safe for you, we suggest speaking with your Primary Care Doctor before visiting. Please note that Halotherapy is not intended to treat or cure any medical condition, and is not a substitute for any conventional medication or medical treatment.
IS IT SAFE TO ATTEND WHILE PREGNANT?
Salt Therapy is not suggested during advanced Pregnancy. However, it is safe to attend Salt Therapy throughout the early months of your Pregnancy. It is a wonderful and natural way to boost your immune system, decrease stress, and ward off allergies throughout the first two Trimesters of your Pregnancy. That being said, we suggest that you receive clearance from your Doctor before participating.
